A tragic case in Berlin-Marzahn shows once again how little Degewo can be relied upon. A 75-year-old man died in the stairwell of his apartment block - 18th floor, 288 steps. The lifts? Defective. Not for the first time.
According to Picture one of the two lifts had been out of service for some time, the second one broke down at the end of August and was only repaired days later. This is a nuisance for healthy people. For older residents or those with health problems, it is life-threatening.
Degewo likes to present itself as a modern, social housing association. But in reality, tenants are regularly faced with locked doors - or broken lifts. The outward impression is that the company cares. But anyone who really needs help soon realises that it's just words.
A death investigation is underway and the exact causes are being investigated. But regardless of this, anyone who operates high-rise buildings with hundreds of residents is responsible for ensuring that basic infrastructure such as lifts work. Anything else is negligent.
Sad, but typical Degewo - Unfortunately, nothing else is to be expected from such a society.
